FAREWELL MIRA BROWN

Mira Brown has left the BNB staff after many years of amazing contributions. She writes:
"After 17 years working with BNB in a variety of capacities (bike mechanics instructor to teens, executive director, transportation justice organizer, and development director!), I am resigning from the staff to become a middle school science teacher in the Boston Public Schools. Working at Bikes Not Bombs has always seemed like a privilege to me. I've gotten to work on justice and equity issues from many different angles, making concrete differences in so many people’s lives, and for our environment. And many of the relationships I've developed here have been life-changing for me. The BNB family continues to be the most diverse I've ever gotten to be a part of, in terms of age, race, class, country of origin, etc. I particularly love how my work as Development Director has made getting to know and really appreciate people, including you, a part of my actual job. So, as you might be able to imagine, it was a hard decision for me to leave!

However, I am moving on – I want to work more directly with young people again, to return to my earlier roots as a scientist, and to have my summers off to have some adventures with my daughter.

At BNB we (they!) will be restructuring the development positions some. Our Development Associate, Jasmine Laietmark, is moving up into a senior position, to be joined in the development team by a new hire, and by our great Acting Executive Director, Kim Foltz. Kim (who will be with us through September 2008, as we carry out an Executive Transition plan), has a strong fundraising background, is solidly rooted in justice work, is a great manager, chaired the BNB Board of Directors for 4 years, AND has a background in forestry and environmental science! So BNB is lucky to have her here during this time of transition.

Another crucial item BNB needs during this time of transition is your continued support. I will be continuing my relationship with BNB as a donor and an occasional volunteer. Please don’t hesitate to contact me or the BNB staff if you have any questions. And, please, do keep up your great support, helping Bikes Not Bombs build the needed leadership and transportation systems for a sustainable, just and peaceful society. -Mira Brown"
