Volunteer Night at BNB!

Sep 10 2008 - 7:00pm
Join us Wednesday night, anytime in the 7-10pm range that works for you, to help sort and process donated bikes, parts and accessories. We do this every week, but right now we have an extra large inventory of donations to process and get ready for overseas shipment, so we really need some extra hands this Wednesday!!! Come on down to the Bikes Not Bombs Hub at 284 Amory - it is a few blocks away from our retail bike shop location, and also very close to the StonyBrook T station on the Orange Line. We are in what is known as the Brewery complex, and when you enter the parking lot at 284 Amory, go all the way to the left to find our door next to the loading dock.

You don't need experience with bike mechanics to join in. Volunteer leaders are good at orienting new people, and they can show you what to do. If you do have mechanics experience, let us know and we can give you more advanced tasks. Much of the work is flattening bikes to make them compact for shipment, occasionally stripping good parts off of bad frames, and sorting parts so that we can also send a good range of spare parts to fit the bikes. Extra hands are also very helpful to pack the bikes into our shipping-ready storage space. Your help can be crucial in getting ready for our shipment of about 500 donated bikes and frames to the Maya Pedal organization in Guatemala on September 27th (see separate announcement of how to help on the 27th).

This is an open volunteer night so anyone can come and you don't have to sign up in advance (though we wouldn't mind a heads up if you're coming to this week's session, and also you need to check in with us in advance before bringing a group of people).

Wednesday Volunteer Nights happen 7-10pm every Wednesday, except for occasional holidays or weather emergencies. If a night is ever canceled, we'll announce that here on the website.
