Brattleboro VT activists donate bikes and other goods to Ghana
A group of activists in Brattleboro VT have collected over 175 donated bikes, 55 boxes of books, 75 computers, and several wheelchairs for shipment to Ghana. Bikes and wheelchairs will go to the the Ability Bikes project in Koforidua, Ghana which is being created through a partnership of Bikes Not Bombs and the Emmanuel Education Foundation and Sports Academy (EEFSA). There, BNB mechanic David Branigan is training disabled people to become bicycle mechanics and run a bikeshop business which they will own cooperatively. Read David's blog about the project at http://bikesnotbombs-eefsa.blogspot.com/ and see photos of the project in its current beginning stages at http://www.flickr.com/photos/bnbghana/.
The books and computers will go to a library in Accra, Ghana, which was built as part of the Homeland Youth Empowerment Project (HOYEO), which was established in 1997 by Brattleboro community members. The books will be delivered to the director Mr. George Akafo. For more information on the library project and HOYEO, contact Naima K Wade at naimakw@abeautifulsite.org or visit www.abeautifulsite.org
